Reception Planned for Retiring Workers

A reception to honor long-time municipal employees who have announced their retirement effective this month is planned for 3:30 – 5 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 28, at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. The reception is an initiative of new Village Manager Thomas W. Barwin and is intended to give residents an opportunity to say
goodbye to municipal employees who may have served them over the years.

"Public service is a calling for many, and those who answer it should be formally recognized and celebrated when their careers come to such an honorable end," Barwin said. "Oak Park has a long tradition of service – a tradition that I believe thrives not only in the community at large, but at Village Hall as well. This reception, and those that will occur in the future, are but small gestures of appreciation for jobs well done."

Barwin said periodic retirement farewell receptions will give residents and
workers alike an opportunity to say goodbye to those they served and with whom they worked.

Employees who have officially announced their retirement in September have
been with the Village between 15 and 32 years. They include the following:

·    Joseph Carnagio, Public Works Department/Engineering
·    Irene Drechler, Public Works Department/Parking Services
·    Russell Fischer, Public Works Department/Fleet Services
·    Catherine McNamara, Department of Public Health
·    Colleen Temesvari, Human Resources Department
·    Suzanne Vestuto, Community Relations Department
·    Margaret Walsh, Village Manager's Office
·    Dorothy Whitely, Police Department Crossing Guards
