Schedule of meetings on the Proposed Downtown Historic Designation of
Oak Park

The Oak Park community is invited to participate in a public process
to discuss options for preserving the historic and architectural
character of downtown Oak Park, which includes the area south of
Ontario Street, north of North Boulevard, east of Harlem Avenue and
west of Forest Avenue. Public participation in a series of community
meetings will help the Historic Preservation commission establish a
shared community vision for preservation options downtown.

• 7 - 9 p.m., Tues., Jan. 23, Veterans Room of the Oak Park Public
Library, 834 Lake St. Focus will be on identifying and discussing
three options for historic designations in downtown Oak Park –

1) designating a local historic district;

2) listing a downtown historic district on the National Register of
Historic Places; and

3) designating individual historic landmarks. A combination of these
options also could be considered.

• 7 - 9 p.m., Tues., Jan. 30, Veterans Room of the Oak Park Public
Library, 834 Lake St. Focus will be on further discussion regarding
various options for historic designations in downtown Oak Park.

• 7:30 p.m., Thurs. Feb. 8, Village Hall, 123 Madison St. The
Historic Preservation Commission will deliberate on the community
input received in the first two community meetings, as well as any
research or other information provided. Commission may determine the
favored historic designation option to pursue.

• 7:30 p.m., Wed., Feb. 21, Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Focus will
be on the favored option determined by the Historic Preservation
Commission. Discussion and more detailed information will be
provided, and feedback from the community on the favored option will
be taken.

• Future process: A final report on the favored option will be
scheduled for a Village Board Study Session in March 2007. Following
Village Board direction, a nomination(s) will be prepared and a
public hearing held at a date to be determined. Nomination(s) will be
forwarded to the Village Board for final approval following any
additional required public hearings.
