A Lone American Coyote Patrols the Northern Areas of
Oak Park
edited photo of picture taken by Mr. Larry Kucharik

Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My !!!
No, and Not Wolves Either.
Coyotes Are on the Roam Though... in
North Oak Park.

Mr. Larry Kucharik informed us of a wondering coyote he
noticed in his neighborhood at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.  He followed the coyote for several blocks, noticed
it cross Oak Park Avenue and appear again a block away.

Police have had nummerous calls of wolves in the area, and
evidence is clearly for the coyotes.  This was in the area of
Mann elementary school, where some kids have told their teachers of seeing a stripped looking dog at night in their
area.  Now we can believe the kids and thanks to Mr. Kucharik
we have photos to prove it.

A Coyote (Canis latrans) perhaps thinking about trick or treat, but he may have to huff and puff and blow the door down....
and he is not a wolf so that won't work anyhow.

Within the past year or so another coyote came to town for a visit and captured by our animal control.  He was taken miles west and released.  Has he returned?  He could very well have
come back and if left alone he would help keep the rabbit and
rat populations in check.  His or her tale looks a bit worn,
but that's still better than being made into a jacket or hat.

Please email us if you have more news or photos of this fine hunter.

A coyote in California caused the death of a ten year old child in 1981, so keep that in mind before you think these animals are too cute.  They have also lost their fear of humans and if you feed them this can encourage their lack of fear and potential aggressive behavior.  I would  advise kids to go into a house or get off the street if they see one of these critters while they are alone.
