Is
there such a thing as too much pink,
or too many pink cupcakes? Read on to find what
Pinkalicious Pinkerton found out!
While
this book and its companions, listed below, are not new on the scene (first published in 2006) it only
came to my attention when I saw "Pinkalicious," the musical
at the
Broadway Theater at Water Tower Place in Chicago. The book is
titled for the main character Pinkalicious Pinkerton. At first I
found Pinkalicious to be a bit of a boor, her dialog and many of her
actions celebrated her spoiled status! This is not something I am
inclined to encourage, but soon enough events force Pinkalicious to see
the error of her ways. She changes her behavior and manners and
is happier for it. There is plenty of fun and great word-play (pink-a-boo, pinkititus,
etc.) so that the children you read to, and the children who read this
on their own will enjoy it without feeling like it is a book with a
message. That being said, it can really open the door for
discussion on behavior. Based on "Purplicious," which I also
read, and the titles of the companion books, children thinking about
and working to be the best they can be is a theme in the
un-series.
"Pinkalicious"
is aimed at the young girls in the crowd, but her brother, green with
envy, ends up being the hero.

New
Children's Picture Book Celebrates Cupcakes and the Color Pink
New
York, NY, June 1, 2006 - Renown collage illustrator Victoria Kann
celebrates her love of cupcakes in a new children's picture book she
wrote with her sister Elizabeth Kann. The colorful book titled Pinkalicious
published by HarperCollins in June 2006 is available now for $15.99 at
Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com and other fine book retailers
nationwide. Pinkalicious is a book about dessert, desire and
discipline.
Pinkalicious
can't stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her
pink indulgence lands her at the doctor's office with Pinkititis, an
affliction that turns her pink from head to toe — a dream come true
for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only
Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this pink predicament.
The colorfully illustrated book will leave you salivating and giggling
and is a must-have for the little cupcakes in your family.
Victoria
Kann is the award-winning illustrator and author of the picture book
series featuring the whimsical and effervescent character Pinkalicious.
Victoria coauthored and illustrated the first two books, Pinkalicious
and Purplicious, as well as the play Pinkalicious: The Musical. She
wrote and illustrated the New York Times number-one bestseller
Goldilicious and is working on several more books about the adventures
and antics of Pinkalicious. Victoria teaches at the School of Visual
Arts in New York City. Recently she built a tree house for her Princess
Pinkerellas. She often hears galloping in the house and wonders if it
is Goldilicious or just her Pinkerbelles.
"It's
a great play for opening conversations about manners or
character building with your children,
or just sheer enjoyment!"
