by Dan Peters
Oak Park Journal
Robby Gordon will have the busiest schedule this month
of May.. and it all starts on "Pole Day" qualifying weekend for the 2004
Indy 500
"I've got the schedule down to a science" said Robby Gordon.
He will try and qualify his "self-owned" #70 Dalllara/Chevrolet at Indy
in addition to running in the Nascar Busch Series and full time for Richard
Childress in the Nextel Cup Series.
Robby Gordon's schedule this week & weekend:
Wednesday, May 12, 2004 ...Practice at the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway in preparation for Pole Day on Saturday, May 15, 2004 (Armed
Forces Day)
Thursday, May 13, 2004 ....Robby is in Richmond, Va for
practice & qualifying for the NASCAR Busch Series Funai 250 Race Friday
night in Richmond. He qualified 10th.
Friday, May 14, 2004 ...Nascar Nextel Cup practice &
qualifying for Saturday's Cup Race. Also competes in Nascar Busch Race
at night. Returns to Indianapolis after Busch Race for Pole Day.
Saturday, May 15, 2004 ...2004 Indy 500 practice &
"Pole Day" Qualifying at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Departs for Richmond,
Virginia at approx. 2:45 PM local time to Richmond to compete in the "Chevy
American Revolution 400" Saturday evening. After the race, departs back
to Indianapolis.
Sunday, May 16, 2004 ... Robby is back in Indy for second
day of Pole qualifying & practice for the Indy 500 on May 30, 2004.
After his practice on Sunday, Robby heads back to Charlotte.
"The most important thing here is winning the race on
the 30th. Is qualifying important? Yeah. Will we make the show? Yeah. But
the important thing is winning the race"
For those who say Race Car drivers are not athletes, show
me another sport where the competitors are on such a busy time consuming
schedule and are as well prepared to compete as Robby Gordon will have
to be this weekend.... And this is only the first of several busy weekends
for Robby.
