| Bears
fall to 0-2 Lose 32-17 to the Raiders at Soldier Field.
The
Grass looked oh
so green, so perfect.. But so did the Bears in yet another loss
in
this 2010 Pre-season.
The
Bears first
offense stumbled out of the gate again..Cutler had very little
protection from his Offensive line, which in the early going could
not stop any penetration to the second year quarterback.
“The third and
long hurt us. But the guys came back and played a lot better” said
Lovie Smith.
Cutler
got his wake
up call in the second quarter as the offensive line showed him some
added protection.
Run..
Jay..Run..
Cutler's
22-yard
touchdown pass to Johnny Knox just before halftime came after Wimbley
had flushed him out of the pocket and he was forced to
improvise.
"It wasn't exactly drawn up like that,"
Cutler said. "Offensive line, they're still gelling together,
working together. They were in their right spot, which is always a
good thing to see. It wasn't like they were just completely busted,
more just physical stuff which can be corrected. Those guys are going
to be good. I'm not worried about them."
“Offensively, we
took advantage of situations and put fourteen points on the board”
said Smith.
Look at him Run..
Forte's showed
increased speed in Bourbonnais. Behind center Olin Kreutz and with
nice blocks from Louis and tight end Kellen Davis, Forte sliced
through a hole on the right side and raced 89 yards for a touchdown.
That proved to be the only real spark of the night.. It was all
downhill from there.
Large Holes to
fill…on Offense
Jay Cutler was
sacked 5 times by Oakland in the first half in the 21 times he
dropped back to pass, with Kamerion Wimbley beating left tackle Chris
Williams for 3½ sacks
"I got beat,"
Williams said. "No surprises. Just didn't play well. Keep
working. It's not going to happen again. I don't know what to tell
you besides I'm going to keep working hard."
Even snapping the
ball was a problem tonight as Patrick Mannelly was sidelined with a
“Stinger’ he suffered in last week’s loss to the Chargers. He
should be back in the lineup this next game against the Cardinals.
The
Defense also was missing a cylinder…
The Defense lost
Brian Urlacher early in the game.. Nothing serious, at least that
what Smith said a man of few words “ We don’t think it’s
anything serious” Julius Peppers looked to be injured a bit later
but it proved to be just a finger to the eye and nothing more and
he returned to the game.
The second team for
both sides also seemed to stumble as well. This is pre season after
all and the reason they play these games is to see who makes the
final cut. There were no clear cut standouts on these Bears players
who need to make the team. There are two more games for those to
strut their stuff and show they belong here.
Next up, the
Cardinals from Arizona on Saturday.
